Tolsia High Therapeutic Services Program Hosts American Heart Association Fundraiser
The Tolsia High School Therapeutic Services Program recently completed an American Heart Association fundraiser at the school on Friday, May 21st. The fundraiser included the, “One Heart Saving Many” Walk-a-Thon to raise money and awareness to heart related conditions. The group sold over 100 shirts and had the walk-a-thon on the campus of Tolsia High in Glenhayes, West Virginia and raised all told over $1,000 for the American Heart Association.
The community service aspect of the program is part of the Simulated Workplace Initiative developed by the West Virginia Dept. of Education and Career-Technical Division to give students a real-world career experience.
The Tolsia High School “Tender Hearts Services” company operates under the supervision of Tolsia High Instructor Mrs. Lorena Smith. The Tolsia students and instructor felt driven to help the American Heart Association with the fundraiser to raise funds and awareness to heart attacks, strokes and other heart related conditions.
Tolsia High Therapeutic Services Instructor Mrs. Smith said, “This Heart Walk-a-thon and fundraiser is a great way for our students to give back to the community and help those in need. It is an example of exactly how a Simulated Workplace Program should function. We continue to strive to get our students at Tolsia High School both College and Career Ready as they continue their learning processes at their next level of development.”
